Did your heart skip a beat? :D

Well, after reading the screenplay so kindly provided by Kris Klopek, I thought to myself.

What of The 'Burbs had a remake?

Who would star in the different roles and would there be changes/reimaginings to the plot?

I have to think about this before posting, but it could be something fun to do on 'Burbs Day tomorrow ;)

I've always pictured Jason Bateman as Ray, Steve Carell as Art (he could really rock it if he put on a few pounds), Christoph Waltz as Dr. Klopek, and Caleb Landry Jones as Hans. :D

Nice choices. I'm gonna think about it for a while and then let you know...It's also interesting to think about how the film would turn out if if were made today.

I always thought of Ben Stiller as Ray Peterson. Ben Stiller could very well play the everyday guy who just snaps one day. Will have to make my thoughts about the other actors.

I'm going to preface this with a strong "I hope the 'Burbs is never remade."

But if it was, Demon Princess comes up with the winning idea.

Jason Bateman would be a perfect Ray Peterson. He has that straight man quality about him where the other actors can play off of him well.

Christoph Waltz would be a perfect Dr. Werner Klopek and now is the only person I could ever see replacing the great Henry Gibson.

I think Woody Harrelson could put on a good show as Rumsfield.

I disagree on the choice of Art though, Steve Carrell would not be a good choice. I honestly can't think of anyone who could replace Rick Ducommun as Art. It's like he was made for the role.

He's probably a little young, but Jonah Hill might make a good Art in a few years time. With the right material (as in Superbad, 21 Jump Street or The Wolf of Wall Street) he can be very funny and a surprisingly good actor. And does the overweight sidekick thing very well.

Having said that, he was in THE WATCH, which was an obvious attempt to make a Burbs kind of film, and that didn't work out too well :/

Has anyone seen the British movie ELFIE HOPKINS? I haven't seen it, but have heard that it's also quite influenced by the The Burbs.

I can't see Jonah Hill as Art. No way, not even in a few years. That would be an insult to the memory of that character.

You're probably right. I was just trying to think of a way to give the remake a more contemporary feel . But I agree that nobody is ever going to best Rick Ducommon's performance as Art. He really nailed it and hit it out of the park, and nobody could ever play that role better. I was rewatching GROUNDHOG DAY for the first time in years recently and was excited when Rick appeared in a few scenes. Really an underused talent.

I guess it really takes some kind of...Dan Aykroyd or someone like this to play Art. Dan is a little too old now I know but somehow I think of him. Our actor should be in his early thirties just like Rick Ducommun was when the movie was shot. Hmmmm...tough choice.
