The Question That Should Have Been Asked...

Green sky could reference methane gas or pollution. I know I've seen this mentioned/explained in another movie, but I can't recall which one.

My mind says it was one of the Vacation movies, but I'm not so sure about that.

From Christmas Vacation, probably.

A sequel could be done, even with MOST of the original cast and crew, it should be a new family though (for obvious cast reasons), and it'll make the sequel more interesting instead of making the classic Hollywood-playing-it-safe sequel mistakes of making it look exactly like the first movie.

I can imagine the following:

Ray Peterson and Carol talked about moving, and they finally did. So did Art, Rumsfeld and Ricky.

Everyone is a bit older, Ricky has married and tried to dump his teenager ways (which he really can't shake...after all..he loves his new street and a little action too at any age, don't we all?).

Rumsfeld & his wife have gotten two kids, it's a girl and a boy, they're 12 and 16 y/o. The kids decide to go exploring with the other kids in the street, Dave Peterson is also married and lives next door to the original Petersons, he has a 13 y/o kid named Ray Jr.

The new street they've moved to has been built over an old graveyard, there are rumors that several of the older houses in the back yard owned by a former priest and his family & yard workers are now haunted, the Real Estate agency didn't manage to sell them because of this, and there was a decision made to build new houses and tear down the old street, but the street was moved and the old houses never torn down, they where however rotting and decaying over the years, sometimes believed to be taken over by squatters and meth heads.

The kids set out to explore this old neighborhood (which reside BEHIND the new street), and discovers some terrible secrets. One by one the kids vanish, and their parents decide to dig deeper on what's going on in their back yards.

Rumfield thinks they've been kidnapped because he got some enemies back when he was a weapons dealer and that they're going to extort him for money to get his kids back, being the warmonger he is - he decides to take the matter into his own hands and go to war against the enemies he suspects have kidnapped the kids.

He gets Ray, Dave, Art in on it and they all get geared up with the latest and greatest in technology to scan the area.

Art is kind of an expert with computers so he is trying to hack his way to information about Rumsfelds former enemies, and manages to find blueprints over the old Priest family estates.

Carol is devastated that Dave's kid Ray Jr. has been gone for days, and encourages her husband Ray Senior to call the police instead of going with that "nutcase" Rumsfeld. But all to no avail, Ray Peterson is hellbent on finding out just what is going on over there.

He's kind of down to earth, and suspect that his kids and friends are just daring each other to sleep over in one of those spooky haunted houses, so he calms Carol down with this information, which she reluctantly accept, and the ADVENTURE BEGINS!

:)

All these new answers...

...and no one even bothered to comment on my effort to suggest a story?!?! :holy:
 :(

Sorry neighbor, I didn't see it before.

You have an interesting idea, but it would have to be very well done for me to want a sequel. Plus, Bruce Dern isn't as agile as he used to be. And there could be no Rick Ducommun, because I think he has been sick or something.

I do like the idea of their kids disappearing, but it'd be hard not to bring the police into that. At least at first.

I just think some movies are better left untouched.

I'm coning to it, trust me :) I'm thinking it over because you put a lot of thought into that story line. It deserves a considered reply!

Some movies yes...

...I'm real curious to see how they plan to "destroy" Ghostbusters with Ghostbusters III, Dan Aykroyd wanted the original cast (he still does AFAIK), but Bill Murray just won't do it for now.

And the only Sequel to the new star wars series I liked was III - The rise of Dart Vader.

The First one (1 - with Jar Jar Binks?!?! :roar: Don't even get me started on that one)....

Plus Harold Ramis, who wrote Ghostbusters & Ghostbusters II, and starred as Egon, died earlier this year. So I don't know if Ghostbusters III will ever get off the ground.

Big thanks for your input to a possible sequel.

I like the idea of involving the kids. Did I get it right, the families moved but they all intentionally moved in the same street?

I also had the same thought like Uncle Reub, it's somehow difficult to imagine that they don't involve the police (especially the ladiiiies) when their kids disappear. Carol would certainly do more than just encouraging Ray to call the police, she would simply do it on her own.

Hm, just thinking, we would need a rational explanation for a scenario in which none of them actually calls the cops in order to file a missing person's report.

Good point.

And if you recall the Burbs...Rumsfeld doesn't really like the Cops. And HE's the army-guy!

I can imagine he'd say something about cops not doing a thing: Picture him saying this:

Hey hey Ray, let's not call the coppers on this one.
Ray: What are you crazy, of course I'm going to call the cops.
Rumsfeld: Why? I served for years in the Army, and I don't want MY KIDS to END UP on the BACK of a MILK-CARTON - we can take care of this thing here and now:
Ray: With what? The Army?
Rumsfeld: That's right Soldier! We ARE the army! (And he makes a salute!).

Perhaps if the street was cut off from everything for some reason, like a storm, then the police couldn't be contacted and couldn't get in even if they were called. So they would be forced to investigate the disappearances themselves...with the ladies saying that nothing was wrong and that the kids are just off on an adventure, while the guys are sure something terrible is going on....and so they investigate!
