The Supreme Court ruled that a man's garbage is public domain as soon as it hits the curb!

California v. Greenwood

For those that don't know or are too young to remember, that's not just a line...it really happened! I've always thought the garbage men scene in the movie was particularly funny because of that line. I vaguely remember hearing all about it in the news as it was happening. It dragged on for quite some time and seemed like a ridiculous situation to begin with. It was decided only JUST before the filming of the 'Burbs so not only was it funny but it was also topical. The bottom line can be found here:

and a more in-depth article full of all the legal mumbo jumbo can be found here:

LOL, thanks for the information. That makes this movie even more precious for me.

"readily accessible to animals, children, scavengers, snoops, and other members of the public."

hahahaha

Picturing police officers digging through trash, with half shaved faces, in robes, sounds pretty hilarious. :)

That would be funny...Did you know that if you put pepper in your trash. It is a safe way to keep animals and scavengers out of it.

It's also great for keeping dogs from crapping in your yard. There's animal repellent you can buy for your yard and I believe pepper is one of the primary ingredients...

To bad Rumsfield didnt know about that product..

Yeah,if Rummy had known that he would not have had to threaten to staple Queenie's little behind shut... :D

I'm sure Rummy is well versed in the art (no pun intended) of chemical warfare; however he seems to prefer the guerrilla approach.
