Bruce Dern is awesome. I love his "Red Rover Red Rover, Ray go over" lines...the way he smiles and says "good." as he watches them climb the fence is great - like a kid finally getting to play Army. LOL

According to my little Burbs-booklet Bruce Dern says about his role of Mark Rumsfield, that it was the first time since 15 years, since "Smile" and Hitchcoc k's "Family Plot" playing in a comedy. He says, he loves to play in comedies but unfortunately they rarely let him do that.

Dante adds, that Bruce Dern is avery funny guy who is much too rarely given the opportunity of taking advantage of his talents.

So it might be the case, that Bruce Dern's real joy about acting in a comedy again comes shining through in the movie itself from time to time.
