Anyone here got the VR goggles?

I have an Oculus Quest.

I use an app on it (bigscreen) that has extremely great potential to allow a group like us to all hang out in a movie theater and watch our favorite movie.

Tonight, I hung out in a theater and watched Star Trek The Next Generation TV shows with a bunch of strangers online. It sounds weird, but when you have the headset on, you REALLY feel like you are in a theater. Totally immersed.

It has the "touch to talk" button but most people stay quiet and just gesture at each other with hello waves.

If you have one let us know!

If you are on the fence and have the spare change for one, I HIGHLY recommend it. I think a future Burbs day will be held in a virtual theater with all of of us sitting side by side.
 

 
I would have bought an Oculus Quest a long time ago, but here in Germany you can't even buy the Quest officially. Facebook and our great antitrust authority have unfortunately not yet been able to come to an agreement. You can order from the French Amazon site, but I didn't want to yet. In this respect, I look enviously at those who have a Quest.

This virtual cinema sounds really very interesting. It will be one of the things I do first once the Quest comes out here. Maybe some of us can get together on Burbs Day at the virtual cinema, that would be really awesome.

This BigScreen app also runs on HTC Vive and Playstation VR if Oculus is not your thing. I hope another vendor comes along and plays nicer than Oculus/Facebook. I have the quest 1 and it has "oculus" account that it logs in with. Starting with Quest 2 they force you to create a facebook account to log in which sucks.
 
Yes, that sucks indeed. On the other hand I really like the concept of a standalone VR system. This stuff sounds easy. My computer is 10 years old so I guess I won't be able to use any VR with it in an appropriate manner.

I actually consider buying a PlayStation VR. But then again, cables everywhere, I usually don't like that.
 
I love the idea :)

We also talked about starting "small" and have a Skype meeting or something along those lines. Just to be able to talk with all the neighbors.
 
I still have my own HTC VIVE (The original that Valve Released for Steam).

Best part of it, is that it does not require social media to use it, I can use it with standalone app, I even made an app with it in Unity as a concept to test how easy they made it to code in VR, and - it was fairly easy.

It has been gathering dust for a few years, largely due to the fact that VR gaming is still a novelty, sure - games like Alyx and some bullet-hell arcade games in VR can be fun for weeks, but after that it pretty much goes back to sitting in front of a big monitor instead, which to me - offers a far superior experience in the long run when it comes to comfort and longevity.

But I keep it around, because the lighthouse system is still the best VR for immersiveness as it's so precise in comparison to using cameras for orientation.
