Why do we live in an era of remakes... Amityville Horror, Flight Of The Phoenix, House on Haunted Hill, The Hills Have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn Of The Dead (admittedly a good remake) The Wicker Man, Psycho, Get Carter, The Italian Job, Ocean's Eleven, Planet Of The Apes, Shaft, The Haunting, The Hitcher, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, The Ring...

Of course, we've always had remakes: The Fly, The Blob etc...but there seems to be a massive turnout recently. Is it...that modern day film makers can't be original? Let's face it, some of these remakes are crap, and could never hope to equal the original. Though we do get good remakes. I like the remake of Miracle On 34th Street for example. And the Humphrey Bogart classic SAHARA was remade with James Belushi and was very good.

But I'd prefer new movies, new, fresh ideas. Not 'revamps' of old classics.

Because society is at a loss of creativity. There are few good imaginations left in this world. :(

Plus I have to say that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were 2 different films. I love them both, equally.

Gene Wilder was absolutely brilliant. The music was great..except for maybe "Cheer up Charley" ZZZZzzz

Tim Burton stayed much closer to the book, and i was very entertained. :)

I wholeheartedly agree, that's my opinion, too. Lack of creativity.

Cheer up Charlie always made me reach for the razor blade or noose. Roald Dahl hated that film.

i like the new Psycho (not better than the first one) - but the new one was made as a funny remake. it wasn't ment to be taken seriously. (come on.. vince vaughn hardly does anything seriously, lawls..cool though) and julianne moore in the basement scene when she finds the mother, LOL best scream ever!

anyway, i like original movies.. as most of us do

LOVE Psycho.

Lol I can't help but think of a line...

"A little eccentric?! These people are clearly psychos!"

fanatics...weirdos...nutcases...psychopaths...we are out to get 'em...

Yeah recycled movies are generally sad. George of the Jungle was bad.
Now they have Underdog - looks pretty weak

George of the Jungle - written by Dana Olsen by the way.

But it's true, remakes and sequels dominate todays cinema. And more are announced (like "The day the earth stood still").

Are the screenwriters running out of ideas? Are the directors keen of giving the old classics a new, modern CGI - supported look (which in the end just takes away the charm of the original)?

Look at War Of The Worlds!!! The 50s classic is fantastic still.

Oh my God, is nothing sacred! The Day The Earth Stood Still?!?

WRITE SOMETHING NEW FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!
