Your Favourite Little Known Films

I was wondering what films you love that most other people have never seen or even heard of? It would be great if they were from the 80s, like The Burbs, but mention any others too.

I love discovering weird little films that I've never heard of that turn out to be great.

I'm still trying to think of my complete list, but here's what I just came up with:

The Wraith
Deadly Friend
SpaceCamp
The Dirt Bike Kid
Three O'Clock High
Gleaming The Cube
The Wizard (Fred Savage, Christian Slater)
Maniac Cop (just got the blu ray steel book of this :D)
Little Monsters (Fred Savage)
The Boy Who Could Fly
Remo Williams
The Invisible Kid
They Live

All of those are 1980s, I think. I'd love to hear some of yours! I might add to my list as more come to mind.
 
The Wizard is great. It also stars Jenny Lewis who is the lead singer of one of my favorite bands:

Monster Squad
Ernest Scared Stupid
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
They Live
Bubba Ho-Tep
Disturbing Behavior
So I Married an Axe Murderer
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Time Bandits
Idle Hands
Lawn Dogs

I list all the 80s/90s cheesy horror films too, but then the list would be way to long.

All of mine aren't necessarily that little known, but I personally don't know anyone who's seen them.
 
That's such a coincidence - I just saw you mention Rilo Kiley on the music thread, and I had no idea that Jenny Lewis from The Wizard was in that band. Actually, I had no idea she was a singer.

Oh, and great choice with The Monster Squad. I can't believe I forgot that one. I wore out my VHS copy when I was a kid. "Wolfman's got nards!"
 
She's a great singer too.

In the other thread you mentioned The Wonder Years. The guitarist from Rilo Kiley was in a couple of episodes of the Wonder Years. He played a kid in the shop class.

Monster Squad has some great quotes. "I'm in the god damn club aren't I?"
 
Most B movies from the 80s will be a hidden gem for the general population. Especially horror movies even though 80s horror is not scary these days.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
The Blob (1988)
The Monster Squad (1987)
They Live (1988)

and some 90s stuff too
Army of Darkness (1992)
Branscan (1994)
 
I think it's great that the Monster Squad has been mentioned here a few times. I also absolutely love this movie.
 
I'm surprised you guys didn't mention:

- The Burbs...

...because although it is our favorite film here, it's actually unknown to most people, at least most people I've ever met.

Besides:

- Little Monsters (Fred Savage)
- Explorers (Ethan Hawke)
- Cloak & Dagger
- Space Balls (Star Wars parody)
- The Money Pit (Tom Hanks)
 
And probably tons of other weird movies I've seen over the years, mostly 80s movies for some reason.

The Burbs goes without saying!

I liked Explorers up until the third act, then is fell apart. Still a good movie though.

And Spaceballs is a classic!
 
I agree, the first part of Explorers is what I like the most too (maybe some insight here...maybe it's this burbsy feeling of being together in a neighborhood, dunno...)

Speaking of which...I just found this gem today:


"The Peanut Solution". 1985.

I can't believe I've never come across this one before, anyone seen it? I gotta see this one now.
 
That's one of the weirdest trailers I've ever seen. It might be like a low budget version of The Goonies, but I have a hard time knowing what it's about!
