Scares the heck out of me. I had a neighbor who would go out and mow his lawn (he had a lawn to mow) wearing shorts, wifebeater, black socks and black dress shoes. He was an older gentleman - a great guy and I liked him a lot, but that outfit - yikes.

A Wifebeater is a tanktop shirt, typically what you see an idiot wearing after he is arrested for smacking around his wife, that or no shirt at all.
It is a common term here in the states.
 
Mmmmhmmmm....'wifebeater' here in the UK is a very strong beer.

I thought it was: they drink strong beer in their wife beater the beat the wife. That's awful. Sorry.
 
Yeah, we don't condone domestic violence...we're just discussing the cultural difference of the term 'wifebeater', so we should feel conscience free.

Couldn't help but think of Sean Connery and Steven Seagal drinking strong beer wearing tanktops...
