Any movie that gives you the same feeling as The 'Burbs?

For me 'Burbs is more then a movie, it's something that makes me feel good deep inside.

Do you have other movies that you can compare to The 'Burbs? Maybe some movie that gives you this cozy feeling?

Two other movies that give me this kind of feeling, not as much as the 'Burbs but still, are:

1. Stephen King's IT
I saw this movie at a friends place when I was around 9-10 years old. It was cloudy outside and we had the whole house for our selfs. From that day and on I've loved the movie.

2. Stand by me
I used to enjoy this movie a lot more when I was younger, but i still watch it maybe once or twice every second year or so. The movie also gives me a special feeling.

I don't know if you'll be able to relate to what I just wrote or if you understand what I'm trying to tell but there is something about those movies, I can't really put my finger on it but I'm sure glad that they exist.

So do you have any other "special movie" to recommend or just mention?

I know exactly how you feel, and I have been looking for movies like The 'Burbs for a long time now, but nothing gives me the same feeling. Stand By Me also has this unique feel to it, but it's just not the same. Have you seen American Beauty yet? It's also a movie with a suburban theme...and lots of dark comedy :)

Yeah I know exactly what you are alluding to. I posted a thread on the imdb page looooong ago which was called "The magic behind the Burbs" and described the same feelings like you do. In addition I was trying to find some reasons why this might be the case. I even go so far (without going into detail) to say that without "The Burbs" there might have been a possibility for me to drop out of university. But I've finished my final exams this February and watching the movie helped me a lot (just as I said, I won't explain it any further here).

But you were asking for other movies which kind of make me feel the same way. Coming to my mind are:

1.) Dennis the menace

2.) The Monster Squad

3.) The Goonies

There's also a video game which is able to create that special feeling, "Zelda - A Link to the past" for the Super Nintendo.

Those are some great movies you have listed there pal.

I'm glad that the movie helped you, it surely is something of a magical movie.

Another movie I wanted to add to the list of "same feeling" movies is The Lost Boys!

So here is my list of "special feel" movies, with 'Burbs being the best one of them.

1. Stephen King's IT

2. The Lost Boys

3. Stand by me

4. American Psycho

I've find it fun that Corey Feldman is staring in a couple of our favorites.

So guys if you haven't seen the movies in my little list then do that right away and tell me what you think...

The Burbs is definitely a "comfort" movie. For me it reminds of the 80's a fun time for us who are pushing 40. It also is filmed in only a couple of locations (the cul de sac) giving the feel of shrunken setting, a kind of warm blanket feel.

I agree with HCtheory. I wsaw The 'Burbs in the theater when it came out and loved it right away. As a 40 year old my self it's a nice reminder of a decade long past.

"Stand by me" could be easily added to my list as well. I believe "It" is on your list mostly because of the memories you have when you were watching it with your pal since the movie itself isn't quite the typical "feelgood" movie, right? And American Psycho?

Midnight Run with De Niro.

instant classic the first itme I saw it. Endless funny quotes. Perfect ending. Very funny and loveable. <3

It might sound strange but the film "Arachnophobia" with Jeff Daniels and John Goodman.

I think it's probably the whole peaceful neighbourhood thing, and then something comes along to disrupt that peace, plus I saw it when I was very young so it too has a special place in my heart.

I watched Gaslight again the other night. I think I'll add that to my list.
