Every time I watch the Burbs! The COUNT thread...

They do indeed have good taste (and a wonderful suburbian sense of humor) ;) Hence why I work there, I love these kids, they're awesome.

I admit I was a bit irresponsible (don't have to confess that here, but what the heck...lying isn't my strong side), so I didn't check the AGE restrictions at all.

But I did, and it turns out I can breathe with ease and keep trusting my instincts, I felt it was pretty much a childish (but awesome) movie, so I couldn't even imagine it having a high age-limit, it's very childish and very "obvious" fake when Ray dreams, even a kid could spot that...but just in case - I did in fact inform the kids that RAY was ABOUT to Dream something that may seem horrible.

No one was even remotely affected, tough Swedish Suburbian kids...what can I say?! :)
Don't mess with suburbanites, they are pretty darn tough. Unlike the BIG City (where I also have worked as a teacher), kids out here don't cry if you say something that might seem a bit harsh, here they just laugh like crazy instead!)

Oh the age limit, I checked online (and my box) as well, it's 11 in Denmark, and according to Swedish pages - it's also 11 in Sweden, and that fits the 5th grade just SPOT-ON as they're born in 2000. So no worries at all.

As luck (or maybe faith) would have it, I got an SMS from my Substitute hiring agent that they want me to Sub for them ALL WEEK this week (same class), so it's obviously gone down real well with them, and RAY (you) came up with a WINNING idea here....why not use their Swedish Language Classes to WRITE an ESSAY about the MOVIE?

Excellent Idea Ray, thanks! It'll cover a few hours for me in the unplanned hours for this week.

Good to know. I'm already looking forward to hearing from you what they were writing about The Burbs.

Do you have some kind of projector you can set it up with?

I find it more exciting to see it on a projector when all the lights are turned down, I have an really OLD crappy low-res projector I found defective (the optics inside had come off) on the flea marked for 20 bucks, but its lamp is weak, and I had to work nearly a DAY to get the 3-Color merging cube glued to the socket, man that was hard work...but it kind of works in the dark....now...the surround is needed :p

I bought a used digital media projector earlier this year. It's a Panasonic from 2002, DVD looks decent on. All I need is a screen so I can set it outside under my car-port. It's coming up on summer here in Australia so I really should get that done.
Watching The 'Burbs outside on a summers night would be a real treat.

Congrats! Sounds you're in for a real treat then, Panasonic are known for their better projectors, their black is just "blacker" than the rest of the projectors, hope you got some good life in the projectors Bulb as they're fairly expensive to replace.

Outside in the summer heat, eh? Sounds like a good time down under then, better gather all your neighbors then and throw a few on the barbie (Aussie TV-stereotype humor). ;)

Maybe we can celebrate the next Burbs Day in Australia. Say, how's the weather in Australia in July? :)

The weather in Australia during July is horrible, cold and wet. We're in the middle of spring at the moment; we had a real hot day last week. You that heat that makes your underwear craw up.... anyway it was hot.

different hemisphere. Just think backwards from the notheren hemisphere and you'll get the weather for down under. Right?

Ugh, so no Burbs Day in Australia.

So when it's christmas time you're walking around in your bathing drawers? You NEVER have snow on christmas? Sleigh rides? The wonderful feeling of drinking a hot chocolate after taking a stroll through the winterly forest?

No we definitely don't have a white Christmas. It's usually hot with flies buzzing around everywhere because of all the BBQ going on.

Hans would be right at home, flies seem to like him lol.

I just finished watching The 'Burbs, during a nice summer rain storm with thunder and lighting on a late Friday night. I could here it from inside my living room while watching the movie, such a great atmosphere.

I noticed a couple of things that I'm sure have already be noted. Inside Walter's (Gale Gordon) house there is a photo of Lucille Ball on his TV set. This is clear reference to his time on Here's Lucy in which he co stared.

Also Bonnie almost laughs when Ray is eating the sardine, she covers it well with the cough but if you look closely a little smile sneaks through.
