One plot point that has always confused me

Well, why did the Klopeks call the cops with a trunk full of skulls????
That doesn't add up either.

"...we should sue them..."
Why would calling the cops with a trunk full of skulls be a problem?? The Klopeks are calling about a break in, why would the cops inspect their trunk??
You're serious, right?
You DID watch the end?
RISK.

So, you have dead bodies in your car. You get home and find your house is being burgled. Hmmmmmm you'd call the police eh HCT?

The cops would love you. Especially the sniffer dogs!

"Forget burglary, Fido just sniffed out some interesting stuff here Sarge...we got us a multiple murder case!"

Excellent reasoning.

Oh, oh good plan HCT

One other thing, why would the Klopeks call the police to come investigate a break in at a house that they didn't even own. Assuming that they did murder the knapps, move in and that Art fabricated the story about the real estate broad.

But we aren't 'assuming' they murdered the Knapps are we. Werner actually admitted they took the house from the Knapps!

"...we should sue them..."
Dr. Werner Klopek: You saw one of my skulls, didn't you? Oh yes, I know you did. It belonged to a neighbor of yours. The name was Knapp. We took the house from them. I offered to buy it but you know how old people are, they grow so attached to things.

Yeah I don't know, I guess Art had to be lying about the real estate broad. Unless..... "I offered to buy it but you know how old people are, they grow so attached to things." means the actual skull. :D A few plot holes here and there.
Plot holes, shmlot holes...The Burbs is still the best movie ever!!

Run to me, run to water!

Maybe he didn't know. It was an invented story to add a little adventure and mystery to those weird neighbours and to instigate Ray to start spying around. Later on, the made-up story began to turn real. Coincidence.

I GOT IT! I have devised the most plausible theory that proves there was A real estate broad..
Werner DIDN'T make the offer to buy the Knapps house in person. He sent the real estate broad to make the offer for him. That's when Art talked to her. Also Werner would have instructed her to reveal that thier old house burnt down in a attempt to gain the Knapps sympathy.

I still agree that Art enhanced the story to get Ray paranoid, so he would go snooping around with him and Rummy.

Run to me, run to water!
I also think Werner just simply forgot about the skulls being in the trunk when he went to get the coppers..He did look a little surprised when they found them.

*crunch* maybe.....HAHA, I beat you to it Art.

Run to me, run to water!
Interesting theories (*flipping through demonology book*).

Still we're missing explanations for the "taking care of the mail" part, aren't we?

Walter, I have your dog.

A bit halfcocked though ;)

Maybe the Klopeks just told the cops that they were taking in Walter's mail to refute Ray, Art, and Rumsfields story. Maybe they lied to the cops and Walter, just getting home from the hospital, wasn't available to call bs on their claim.
The Klopeks lie. The poeple are clearly psycho. They're murdering people and burrying them in the back yard. They will tell the coppers anything to not get caught.

I'm only laying here with my eyes closed trying to get some goddamn sleep!
All interesting points gentlemen.
KMan. Genius idea that the real estate broad was an emissary for the Klopeks, that Art spoke to.

I've always believed it was Art BS'ing, but like HCT says, how else would he know the Klopek's name?

But no-one noticed a moving van. That's ridiculous on a street like Mayfield Place! Jeez, a dog having a dump at dawn is noticed. You'd think the Klopek's moving van would be spotted!

Hmmm.

Okay. Step by step now.

1. The real estate woman visits the Knapps and makes an offer on behalf of Werner.

2. She tries to gain sympathy with the Knapps by stating they were desperate to find somewhere quick as their house had burned down.

3. The Knapps reject the offer, as they're so attached to the house.

4. Art, being nosey, goes over and speaks to the real estate woman.

5. He finds out the 'Klopeks' want the house.

continue.....

"...we should sue them..."
