um, actually no, over here in the U.S. we are led to believe that Hasselhoff is some kind of mega-super star in Germany. We are told he sells millions of CDs as a singer, and Baywatch is the most popular German show of all time. So are you saying his publishest has exaggerated the German popularity of Hasselhoff?

Oh and I agree, a Obama musical seems ridiculous, nobody would waste their money on such a thing here.

Well I have to admit that he WAS big here in the early 90's. Knight Rider and Baywatch were popular shows. And when The Hoff began to sing, people actually bought his music. He even sang songs in German (or at least tried to). He also sang when the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and afterwards claimed that he contributed to bringing the wall down and uniting Germany. Of course he's the only one who believes this.

So yes, he was really popular here once but that was 18-20 years ago. Nowadays no one listens to his music, as far as I know there's no German TV station which airs Baywatch or Knight Rider, the newspapers are occasionally reporting when he was totally drunk once again. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Either way, I'm just glad that all of this led to "Jump in My Car"

I think David Hasselhoff is a judge on one of those talent shows now.

Here you can hear him singing a German song. His German is actually pretty decent:
