Hi guys, I am a big Burbs fan from North East England (Newcastle) I remember very vividly as a 10 year old seeing the advert for this in the cinema and thinking it looked so awesome. I later went to watch it with my older sister and his boyfriend. The film was so good I couldn't wait for it to come out on video. My local offlicense had a small selection of videos and the Burbs was one of them, i rented it so many times with my best mate that after a couple of years the guy in the shop actually offered it to me to buy for a couple of pounds. I dont know how many times I have watched it probably a couple of hundred is no exaggeration. It was always more than a film, it represented a life away from our lives in northern england, some place we wanted to live when we grew up to be adults! We haven't lived the dream but we have grown to love the Burbs it's a community we would have loved to live in and by virtue of watching the movie so many times we kind of put ourselves there, picked a house to live in on the close! Blessings P

Hey hepcat and welcome to our community!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, believe me, you're in good company here.

By the way: Congratulations for being our 100th board member! This was one of the goals we had for the year 2011 to achieve the big 100. That kind of makes you a special member here :D

I could never pick just one, but some of my favorites are:

There go the !@#$ brownies!

Actually, Doc, we're not all here. Walter, the old man next door? We don't know where the hell he is.

Diggin, like gravediggers!, I told you, they're ghouls!

This is not a police matter.

Ok, hepcats, get off my car!

Top 5 quotes have to be:

"There go the !@#$ brownies!"

"Klopek, what is that, Slovak?" - "NO!"

"No, it came with the frame."

"Sugar substitute?"

"Smells like their cooking a !@#$ cat over there!"

Funny, that's what I felt too. I even picked out this neighborhood where I live now (in real life) because it has that "Rumsfield neighborhood watch" to it... A street where people care about each other (and their yards, which they DO mow for the 800'th time) The only thing missing though is that no one here speaks American fluently like I do...so I may yet move to another house in USA or something, depends on getting a greencard though.

I just bought & read an early draft of the screenplay and there is a line that was cut from the film that would've been great.... it's when RAY is protesting going up to the cottage with Carol for for the first time and he says ".... God, I hate that place! There were teeth marks in the soap last time!"

Maybe it was the 1st of April in your neck of the woods, but your post was dated the 31st of March... :D

...if you DID actually get your hands on the draft, they congratulations.

Yeah, where did you buy that original script draft from? Is there a way to scan this and put in in the internet? Why not sharing it with us if this is a true story?

I would LOVE an original copy of the screenplay. Actually, I write screenplays in my spare time, and I keep meaning to write a version of The Burbs, just for fun. It would be a good excuse to watch the film another 10 times :) Plus, since it would be my version I shouldn't get into any trouble for posting it online!

I must do that soon.

Yup, also one of my thoughts to finally write some kind of screenplay for a sequel, trying to keep the light-hearted 80's comedy style. I'd like them all to go on vacation together to the dank wet cabins by the sea spying on their neighbours with the enormous heads...
