This may sound weird but one of the reasons why I like the 80's so much is the incredible kitsch (didn't know you use that German word, too) which is reflected in almost every kind of (socio-) cultural heritage of that decade like music clips, movies, commercials and so on.

From today's standards this stuff looks like a spoof but in the 80's this was totally serious. So here I will bring you some of my favorite 80's commercials.

Today: Nissan - We make you feel like drivin'

I wish i had grown up in the 80's or the 70's. Not for that reason though...hahahaha

The 70s was superb. Better than the 80s. The 80s I just remember living in constant fear of a nuclear holocaust.

Probably I like the 80's so much because many childhood memories belong to them. Nuclear holocaust was far away from me back then although I've seen movies like "Threads", "Testament" and "The day after" which capture this fear in a very grim way. Great movies by the way. You could even add "WarGames" to it.

You want another cheesy 80's commercial with a catchy tune? Here it comes:

How old are you Ray? I'm guessing you'd have been so young you'd have been oblivious to the worries we had.
I now look back to the 80s with affection. Both to films and music. John Hughes to my mind is a genius and captured the 80s so well.

I was born in '81. The first parts of remembering my childhood (and thefore the 80's) do not start before 1985. So my nostalgic transfiguration mainly developed in retrospect. From my point of view the 80's were a much more easy-going and cheerful decade although this perception may be totally distorted.

I also like John Hughes. "Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller" are great.

An excellent vintage as we would say in Germany :)

Damn, I'm turning 26 this coming saturday and begin to feel old (sigh). I hope some Tom & Jerry cartoons will cheer me up.

They don't even show Tom and Jerry anymore, here. I don't think. I miss Looney Toons. When I was little, I'd get up early Saturday mornings, eat Cheerio sandwiches(Yes, I was a strange child..and alway will be.), and watch cartoons.

It makes me sad to see the garbage kids watch these days. I know it takes longer, and more work, but i really miss hand drawn animation, and claymation.
