The Burbs Blu Rays and Extras

I worked around having to buy a region B player for now. I backed the Blu-ray up to my PC while removing the region encryption. Once there, I was able to isolate the playlist files associated with the movie and the extras and generate playable .m2ts files. I dumped them on to an external hard drive and plugged it into my PS3. Works great. The only drawback is, I could only choose one audio file so I went with the standard audio. I still have to generate the movie files a second time with the commentary track to get the commentary. I also can't view the menus...I'm not sure what all I'm missing there.

As it stands right now I have files for the movie with the standard audio converted to AC3, the documentary 'There Goes the Neighborhood', the workprint cut, and the split screen comparison 'A Tale of Two Burbs'.

I plan to re-run the software to get a version of the movie with Dana Olsen's commentary. I haven't bothered with the trailer or alternate ending.

Sound like a whole lot of effort. So there is indeed no other, easier way for you guys in the US to enjoy the Arrow Blu - Ray Peterson? Isn't there some kind of easy trick or something?

It honestly is a lot of effort to make the playable files. This particular Blu Ray wasn't too difficult but I've had some in my collection that have been nightmares to work on.

I only know how to make those files because it's a hobby of mine and I've been doing it for years. I think this one took me 4 or 5 different softwares and a few hours.

Just popping in with a little rumor concerning the delayed Carlotta Blu-ray that I deciphered on a French forum. Apparently they were not pleased with the material and decided to commence on their own restoration. One done in 4k resolution (the Arrow was 2k). Don't know if this is true or not, but I have no reason to doubt it. By the way, Carlotta announced the titles they would be releasing in 2015 and The 'Burbs is not one of them. http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=15719

I guess we have to wait another year. 8(

Bummer!

But thanks for keeping us up to date.

just letting everyone no that you can now buy the burbs on iTunes in hd which is a better copy than the blu-ray i think.

American here to say it's totally worth it to buy an all region player.
The work print will blow you away. The biggest difference is the music, which changes the entire mood. It's much darker.
