The Burbs Blu Rays and Extras

When I noticed that Tom's name wasn't on the credits on the back, I thought it must have been on the front cover above the title. But it wasn't. Maybe in the final version on the front it will say, "Tom Hanks in", and then under it, "The Burbs." Then his name wouldn't need to be on the back.

I get the feeling none of this artwork is final. I wonder if the cover night turn out to be completely different on the steelbook.

I've never seen that.
The Arrow Blu-ray has been delayed to August 25.

***THE ‘BURBS RELEASE DATE CHANGE***
We are very sorry to announce that the release date for The ‘Burbs will have to be pushed back to August 25th.

We have had to push the date back to August due to our work on the brand new restoration and also due to the fact that we are working hard on some brand new and exclusive extras.

The new restoration will be performed from original vault elements held by Universal and this will be carried out in participation with Joe Dante. Mr Dante is also helping us secure some very exclusive extra content which has never been seen before including deleted and alternate scenes. As we lock everything down we will be announcing the full specs closer to the time, which should ensure this is the definitive version of The ‘Burbs!

Once again we are really sorry to have to push back the date for this much anticipated title but are very confident that it will be very much worth the wait!

"Are you done with your eggs?"
Damn it! This is literally the worst news I've ever heard (ok, maybe not that bad). But I guess the good news is the new extras we'll get in return for the waiting...

By the way, where did you get that press release, Pizza Dude? I've got pre orders in a couple of places, including Arrow, and I didn't hear anything from them. There's nothing on their site yet either, except the changed release date.

EDIT: Never mind. Just found the press release on Arrow's blog: http://arrowvideodeck.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/the-burbs-release-date-change.html

I've never seen that.
"It's a pity Ray, isn't it?"

"...It's...a pity."

But well in this case I can even deal with it since we will be having a way better final product after all is said and done.

Walter, I have your dog.
When I read of the two month delay my first instinct was to do the Ray and Art "scream while you're holding femur bone" scream. But I gathered myself together just in time.

I hope this two month wait means we get a Joe Dante commentary. And maybe even one or two of the actors might take part (although obviously not Tom...)

Yeah obviously not Tom but didn't I read somewhere that Courtney Gains is aboard? I've seen some image on the net which showed him visiting the studio in order to make an audio commentary.

So it seems there is already a German Blu-ray available that came out last week. It has an introduction by Dante and a featurette called "You Can't Kill Tom Hanks!"

Does anybody have this?

Didn't know that. Well, being from Germany I just ordered it via amazon so it should arrive her by saturday. :D

Oh yeah, my German Burbs Blu Ray has arrived here today and I'm going to share a few information with you as well as some pictures I have taken. I have directly photographed my TV screen so sorry if the picture quality isn't the best.

First of all some pictures of the Blu Ray itself:

This is the title menu:

There are more than 90 pictures on the disc, among them some I have never seen before. I will also share a few of them with you as I believe you will see them for the first time in your life now:

Here is one of Joe Dante at the set of The Burbs:

Joe talking to Tom Hanks in the "orange juice sipping" scene:

Joe discussing something with Tom Hanks and Rick Ducommun

And here Joe is talking to Bruce Dern and Wendy Schaal:

And it got even better, before the movie actually starts, Joe Dante is sitting in the Film Museum in Vienna, Austria and welcomes the viewer (with the first words in German!). He then tells them to get their sardines and pretzels ready, holding both in the camera:

There is a great special on the disc which is an interview with Joe Dante about The Burbs. This interview lasts about 19 minutes! And he talks about some things I never heard before. For example he talks about shooting on the Universal studios backlot. Close to the place where they shot The Burbs there is the JAWS ride which includes one guy calling "Help, Help, Help!" Joe mentions in the interview that if you listen really carefully, you can sometimes hear this guy in the back. :D

He also talks about lots of other things, what it was like to be working together with Tom Hanks, Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Jerry Goldsmith etc. Tom obviously initially didn't want to play the father of a son because he was afraid this would move his acting career in a too serious direction. Basically THIS was what started him becoming an actor for the more serious kind of roles. Very interesting. :D

Great, great, great, hearing and seeing all these new Burbs information felt a little bit like a mixture of christmas and my birthday.

I'm not sure if this Joe Dante interview will be on the UK Blu Ray which will be released by Arrow Films in August. It was obviously directed by some German guys and it seems to me, this is for the German Blu Ray only but let's wait and see.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully those 90 pictures will make their way online in the future.

"Are you done with your eggs?"
Pretty awesome, again - thanks for sharing.

I have to be a little bit of a B**ch though against Germans, I really don't understand why you Germans have to audio-dub everything, can't you guys learn proper English? I mean...the rest of the world uses SUBTITLES...but you guys have to put your own voices (which btw. sound like a fake Spock-from-Star-Trek-On-every-single-voice-over-you-do) on everything.

Original movies have to have ORIGINAL SOUND - not some GERMAN hack wannabee actor who just happen to do 10 voices for 10 of the actors in the movies...for GODS sake, seriously Germans!

 :roar:
Most dvds have the option for subtitles or dubbing, so people have a choice. If I was blind, for example, and didn't speak English, I would appreciate the dubbed German.

I've never seen that.
