Oh yeah, my German Burbs Blu Ray has arrived here today and I'm going to share a few information with you as well as some pictures I have taken. I have directly photographed my TV screen so sorry if the picture quality isn't the best.
First of all some pictures of the Blu Ray itself:
Front cover:
Inside:
Back:
This is the title menu:
There are more than 90 pictures on the disc, among them some I have never seen before. I will also share a few of them with you as I believe you will see them for the first time in your life now:
Here is one of Joe Dante at the set of The Burbs:
Joe talking to Tom Hanks in the "orange juice sipping" scene:
Joe discussing something with Tom Hanks and Rick Ducommun
And here Joe is talking to Bruce Dern and Wendy Schaal:
And it got even better, before the movie actually starts, Joe Dante is sitting in the Film Museum in Vienna, Austria and welcomes the viewer (with the first words in German!). He then tells them to get their sardines and pretzels ready, holding both in the camera:
There is a great special on the disc which is an interview with Joe Dante about The Burbs. This interview lasts about 19 minutes! And he talks about some things I never heard before. For example he talks about shooting on the Universal studios backlot. Close to the place where they shot The Burbs there is the JAWS ride which includes one guy calling "Help, Help, Help!" Joe mentions in the interview that if you listen really carefully, you can sometimes hear this guy in the back.
He also talks about lots of other things, what it was like to be working together with Tom Hanks, Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Jerry Goldsmith etc. Tom obviously initially didn't want to play the father of a son because he was afraid this would move his acting career in a too serious direction. Basically THIS was what started him becoming an actor for the more serious kind of roles. Very interesting.
Great, great, great, hearing and seeing all these new Burbs information felt a little bit like a mixture of christmas and my birthday.
I'm not sure if this Joe Dante interview will be on the UK Blu Ray which will be released by Arrow Films in August. It was obviously directed by some German guys and it seems to me, this is for the German Blu Ray only but let's wait and see.
